Te Komititanga is an urban plaza that has transformed and revitalized lower Queen Street into a vibrant public space. Being strategically located next to the Britomart Train Station and the Downtown Ferry Terminal, the plaza forms an important civic space that will welcome users of the downtown City Rail Link.
Te Komititanga
The name Te Komititanga means to mix or to merge, referencing where Te Waihorotiu once converged with the Waitemata Harbour. This further symbolizes the convergence of people commuting and using the space as part of their daily lives. The name was gifted by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and accepted by CRL’s Mana Whenua Forum, before it was adopted by Auckland Council’s Waitematā Local Board.

Updates to public realm and landscape strategy based on the panels feedback included:
- Assessing the adequacy of existing tree pits for the Pōhutakawa trees' sizes,
- Incorporating temporary street furniture alongside permanent fixtures;
- Re-evaluating the placement relationship between the northern plaza, Precinct Properties entry plaza, and the proposed Pōhutakawa trees.
