Te Wānanga

Te Wānanga is the public space located between Princes and Queens Wharfs.

A key feature of Te Wānanga is the merging of living marine environmental infrastructure to assist with improving water quality and to recognise the mana and mauri of Te Waitematā.

Quay Street

​In 2021 the western end of Quay Street was reconfigured to strengthen the human connection between City Centre and Waterfront through a strong environmental and amenity design response.

This part of Quay Street now features exemplary stormwater management, which recognises the mana and mauri of Te Waitematā.

Central Library Living Roof

Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland Council are collaborating on the design and installation of a living roof at Tāmaki Pātaka Kōrero, the Auckland Central Library.

This living roof will bring many environmental and climate change benefits, including the:
    ▪  active management of rainwater
    ▪  thickening of habitat and biodiversity
    ▪  improvement of air quality.

The living roof also affirms the role of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei as kaitiaki in this area through this rich expression of mātauranga and ahi-kā-tanga.

This project is due to go live in April 2022.
