Visibility Print

Design Checklist

  1. Parking is configured to allow pedestrians to have clear lines of sight to entrances, exits and the surrounding car park area.
  2. There is visiblity and oversight across the car parking area and it's surrounds.

Better Design Practice

Ensure parking facilities provide adequate visibility levels for users
  • Parking spaces should have oversight from surrounding space and should not require people to venture into ‘blind spot’ areas.
  • The route from car to door should be visible and overlooked – this means that people moving from car to the building's entrance should be able to be seen, either from the street or by neighbours or from the windows of habitable spaces.

  • Trees, planting and other landscape elements should not create opportunities for people to conceal themselves – see also Landscaping.
