Ecology and habitats Print

Design Checklist

  • The design and layout of the building protects and enhances the rich ecology and habitat of the natural environment
  • Mixed use developments should lead to a minimal loss of ecosystems or habitat - use existing natural features as an effective way of integrating the new development into the existing environment

Better Design Practice

Maintain and improve the ecology and habitat of the site by integrating these into the development. This could include:

  • riparian and other planting, including street trees
  • reducing stormwater amounts and improving stormwater quality
  • Using native planting where possible.
