All in-fill development designs are based on the aspiration to maximise use of large suburban sites that originally featured a single standalone whare. These features are typical of suburban development around the motu, including many original Māori Affairs suburban homes which remain in whanau ownership across Tāmaki Makaurau.
In making better use of these medium to large-sized suburban sections, and retaining the original whare, whanau are able to create cost-effective multi-generational whanau living environments through creative design.
