Increase visibility to support safety of activities at all hours of the day.

The use of good lighting throughout an environment lets people see further and more clearly, especially in the dark. Better visibility increases sense of safety in the space by allowing people to keep an eye on each other, giving them the confidence to participate in activities for longer.

Lighting needs to be considered on a case by case basis. There are certain locations that would not gain from additional lighting, particularly places where other elements of a safe design are missing. In fact, it may be advisable in such cases to not provide any additional lighting, encouraging visitors to take alternate routes with more people.
