How do design statements add value?Print

A Design Statement is one of the many tools available to help developers deliver the aspirations of Aucklanders, as expressed in the Auckland Plan. The Plan’s vision is to make Auckland “the world’s most liveable city” and to achieve that it is recognised that we need to “demand good design in all development”.

Using Design Statements as a tool to help prepare a context responsive development proposal is recognised as best practice among many professional design and development teams, and is already used extensively within New Zealand and overseas.

Auckland Council encourages the use of Design Statements for developments across the Auckland Region, and requires a Design Statement to be submitted with resource consent applications with certain activities in specified Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan zones.
